Barcelona Airport to the City Centre

Barcelona Airport (El Prat) is around 8 miles from the centre of the city. When arriving these are the options available for you in getting to the city centre and starting your trip.

1- Metro

Since February this year Barcelona Airport is now connected to the city centre by the city’s Metro network. Line 9 (Orange), connects both Terminals 1 and 2 with the rest of the city. Unlike other cities there is no direct metro service from the airport to the city centre, and so travelling by Metro to the centre can take a while. Depending on your end destination the best stations to change at are likely to be Europa Fira or Torrassa. A single journey from the Airport to the city costs €4.50, but if you will be using the metro whilst staying in the city, consider buying a Hola BCN! Travel Card, which offers unlimited daily travel (various lengths available) and includes transport to and from the airport, or a T10 10 journey card. The metro runs until midnights except Friday when it closes at 2AM, and on Saturdays when it runs all night. The service starts up again at 5AM. For a map of the Barcelona Metro Click Here

2- Train

The train station is within the Barcelona Airport complex, a few minute’s walk from Terminal 2, and accessible from Terminal 1 via the free green Terminal Shuttle Buses. Trains run every 30 minutes from 6AM until 11:30PM. The service to and from the airport is the R2 Nord Line which calls at Barcelona Sants (Journey Time 19 minutes) for connections onto the Spanish Rail network or Barcelona Metro, and Passeig de Gracia (journey time 26 minutes) for metro connections and the City Centre. A single ticket on the R2 costs €4.10, or alternatively you can use a journey on a Travel Card.

3- Bus

Both Terminals at Barcelona Airport are served by designated buses; logically Terminal 1 is served by the A1, and Terminal 2 by the A2; and both services run to Plaza Catalunya in the city centre, stopping along the way including at Plaza Espanya. The services run from around 5:30 Am until 01:00 AM. During peak times services run every 5-10 minutes, extending to every 20 minutes in the early morning and late at night. The journey time is around 40 minutes and the service costs € 5.90 for a one way trip, and € 10.20 for a return. Please note that metro tickets and any Travel Cards are not valid for us on the Airport Bus.

4- Taxi

Taxi pickup points are clearly marked outside each Terminal Building, and Barcelona Taxis are yellow & black. All taxis  use a taxi-meter so there should be no risk of being over-charged. Depending on the time of day and traffic conditions a journey from the airport to the city centre should cost between € 25 and € 35 and take around 30 minutes.
